Visual Studio setup cannot run in compatibility mode

How can you convince Visual Studio you are not running in compatibility mode?

Visual studio 2010 RC setup keeps telling me it cannot run in compatibility mode while I’m sure it’s not running in compatibility mode.

I checked if the setup.exe was running under compatibility mode but it was not. The setup.exe in the setup folder did not either. So I tried to disable compatibility mode system-wide but nothing helped.

It turns out compatibility mode is somehow ‘inherited’ from calling applications. Since I start most programs from Winkey (which does run in compatibility mode) setup.exe runned in compatibility mode too. Try running it from the Windows Explorer directly.

Thanks to Christian Ghisler for explaining this to me.
